Girl & the Goat has been serving fun foods, craft beers, and making wine in a rustic and bad ass environment since summer 2010. The restaurant opens at 4:30 every day, and stays open until 11pm on weeknights and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays (until those last late night eaters scrape their fork across the plate for the last time, or finish licking their plates until they're shiny and clean). The Goat's menu is divided into three categories: Vegetable, Fish, and of course Meat--while vegetable, fish, or meat are respectively the main stars of their categories, there are crossovers in each area so you'll get a little bit of everything. Bread is baked daily, and there are always new creations on the menu. Girl & the Goat sits in the West Loop smack dab in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor, but the location is still gritty enough to appeal to the chef’s integrity. The Goat has a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat blended their own wine, and it's tasty. There are beers on tap from Three Floyd’s and a couple others. If you're lucky, you might come across the elusive collaboration beers that Stephanie personally crafted with a couple of beer buddy cohorts. In addition to tap beers, there's also a bunch of bottles to choose from. Girl & the Goat is open 7 days a week, because The Goat is a tireless beast, and besides, who needs rest anyway? Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.
EXECUTIVE CHEF, STEPHANIE IZARD
Stephanie Izard’s guilty pleasures include Taco Bell, Lean Cuisine, and Bon Jovi. She feels most comfortable in a kitchen, drinking a beer, or on a farm. Most of her power, just like Sampson comes from her impressive hair. She swims faster than she cooks. On most nights she can be found cooking at Girl & the Goat with a big smile on her face. Stephanie's last name, Izard, inspired her to name the restaurant Girl & the Goat. "Izard" is the name of goat that can be found in the Pyrenees Mountains. In fall 2012, Stephanie and the Boka team will be opening Little Goat across the street from Girl & the Goat.
CO-OWNER, ROB KATZ
Rob Katz once missed a triple double when he was 17 by one assist and it still bothers him. His admiration of Canadians is legendary. He is better at backgammon and racquetball than you are. He carries a good luck charm around and it usually works. Rob can often be found in one of his dining rooms discussing why Vancouver is the world’s most underrated city
CO-OWNER, KEVIN BOEHM
Kevin Boehm’s favorite restaurant movie is Big Night. He feels like the Cubs have taken 5-7 years off of his life. He eats sushi constantly but has never gotten mercury poisoning. He has been known to sing at Karaoke Bars with great passion and volume. He thinks Chicago is the greatest city in the world. On most nights he can be found in one of his dining rooms discussing food, wine, or telling colorful anecdotes.
We work with a number of farms in the area to support “local” at the restaurant. We use Spence Farm, Kinnikinnick, and Nichols for most of the produce, Kilgus Farm for goats and veal, and Prairie Fruits Farm for goat cheeses. Stephanie likes to see how the animals we use in our kitchen are raised before working with a farm, as not all farms have the same practices.
