Responsive Restaurant Website Research

Website & Users

I plan to redesign Centro Cucina's website. It is a small authentic Italian restaurant in Greenvale, New York, owned and run by an Italian immigrant family with thick accents. The food is pretty fresh and incredible. They are known for their pizza. Any type of eater can find something they want here, and they are very accommodating for the pickiest of eaters. The restaurant is on the smaller side, and can be quite noisy. Most people who come here are families with children. The Friday-night crowd usually consists of couples and Italian-American families from the North Shore of Long Island. Everything is reasonably priced here.

Inspiration

Whitman's Website

Responsive

Simple color scheme, I also like the grid used and how it is adjusted for each platform size.

Tapas Kitchens

Interesting Web-->Mobile Menu Transition

Bay Street Biergarten

Responsive Version

Centro Cucina's website is currently on a black background. This website is done on a dark background, with a simple color scheme and easy navigation bar, which is kept pretty consistent in screen vs. mobile version

Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken (Yum!)

Responsive Version (I like the mobile version better. do you think it was designed first?)

There is no information overload. Multiple colors are used, but it is kept looking "fresh".

Fresh Greek (My Favorite Mobile Site)

Mobile Version (still my favorite!!)

Easy menu at the top. Clear and clean branding. Simple color scheme, but not boring with the photographs. Nice typefaces

Goals

I am hoping to recreate Centro Cucina's website so that it gives off the authentic Italian family-vibe that it so successfully does in person. I want to establish a sense of hierarchy (right now, fish is a separate tab on the navigation bar). This will be a one page site with tabs that jump to specific sections of the page. The navigation bar will always be readily accessible. It will hopefully follow a grid similar to Fresh Greek's mobile site as well as Whitman's regular sized site (this way, the menu will be easier to read). The color scheme will be simple, yet sophisticated. I will be using the Mobile first concept, in which I will first begin to design and build the site for a mobile device, and then finish designing it for a computer screen view.
